Much Marcle Primary School pupil, Kitty Hatch, has raised hundred of pounds for various local charities over the last year, through tending her chickens.
Kitty, who is eight years old, sells eggs and homemade jams on a little stall outside her house in Putley, Ledbury, and donates her profits.
Kitty also helped to fundraise for a Remembrance Bench for the Ross branch of the Royal British Legion, in honour of several service men who fell during the Falklands conflict, including Pte Tim Jenkins (Kitty’s Great Uncle) - which will soon be sited in the Market Place.
However, last week Kitty was devastated to discover that a mink got into her chicken house, killing all 15 of her chickens.
Kittys’ mum, Charlotte Hatch said: “Now Kitty is fundraising to enable us all to build a mink proof chicken house and run so that she can continue to make a difference in the world, no matter how small.
“The target set will allow for the purchase of materials to install a concrete floor and to buy all new small gauge mesh to clad the whole run in. Hopefully we can achieve the target and get Kitty back to saving the world. Thank you all in advance.”
She added: “Should we reach and surpass the target then we will choose a worthy cause to send on any leftover/surplas donations to.
“If anywhere has any small wire mesh available then please let us know.”
Last week Kitty had her hair cut and donated it to The Little Princess Trust, which she is still collecting sponsors for.
She is also still selling jams and marmalade, as well as duck eggs (which live in a separate pen to the poor chickens).
Her Mum, Charlotte said: “All money raised on the stall will go a charity Kitty chooses. Quite possibly Military or animal related, something close to her heart. Kitty just wants to make a difference.”
