South Herefordshire Golf Club's excellent course conditions have meant that recent scheduled events have all been able to go ahead and good results have been achieved.
Gentlemen - members played a Stableford competition, with some good golf. The best top three scores were:?Division 1 - 1st Place Tom Freeman. 2nd Place Ben Davis. 3rd Place Dan Creswick. Division 2 - 1st Place Steve Holmes. 2nd Place Ray Jardine. 3rd Place Rob Lerigo. The section's Winter League 3rd Round Betterball has been played: 1st Place Ali Watkins and Bill Lawrence. 2nd Place Billy Dignan and Paul Campbell. Their Singles Knockout Round 2 is to be played by January 4th.
Ladies - members continue their Winter Pairs and Eclectic competitions. They have held their AGM and elected their committee for 2009. The new appointments are: Captain - Chris Rivers. Vice Captain - Maureen Bishop. Secretary - Gilly Nichols. Treasurer - Anita Leaver. Handicaps/Competitions - Margaret Edwin. Members Representatives - Lesley Colquhoun, Jill Wargen, Diana Smith. The outgoing Captain, Denise Eagle, congratulated the 2008 Gross Champion - Erika Atkins, and Nett Champion - Chris Rivers, as well as the teams who represented the section in gaining 2nd Place (by 1 point) in the round-robin Severn Vale Trophy competition (involving five local Clubs). Thirdly, Denise thanked the members who achieved another good year of results in inter-club matches. Played 13, Won 9, Halved 2, Lost 2, (6 fixtures were cancelled because of poor weather and/or course conditions). In the section's latest Medal there were some close finishes with the eventual top three places in Division 1 - 1st Place Margaret Edwin. 2nd Place - Chris Rivers. 3rd Place Lynn Relph. Division 2 - 1st Place Marg Thomas. 2nd Place - Mo Moore. 3rd Place - Margaret Pearson.
Seniors - members played their latest Stableford in conditions which encouraged a good entry. The winning positions in the divisions were:?Division 1 Peter Litchfield, Laurie Mitchener, Roger Barnes. Division 2 Roger Grigg, Terry Tillotson, Peter Bird. Division 3 Barrie Freeman, Peter Sawyer, Mike Rawlings. Division 4 Brian Carver, Ian Lord, Paul Franks. A team played host to Monmouth GC and won the match. The return fixture played last Friday resulted in a win for Monmouth so the honours were shared evenly.
Juniors - the section has two events scheduled, a Stableford followed by a Flag competition and Christmas Lunch.
The club members congratulate Ben Davis who has just played 100 holes in one day for charity.
Ben and his playing partner raised £200 for the New Rock Foundation (a school in Uganda).
The Club has sold all the tickets for a members and families Dinner and Entertainment evening, and for the Christmas Lunches for each section, as well as the Evening Dinner for Club staff
