Several local residents have expressed concern at the frequent lane closures on a two mile stretch of the A40 between Ross-on-Wye and Pencraig recently.
The lanes have been closed to allow for work to close the gaps in the central barrier.
Most of these turnings are to allow access to fields and many of the motorists think that this is sensible. However, work on the turning to Glewstone, which also serves several villages is causing some concern.
A Highways England spokesperson said: “We’re carrying out safety improvements along the A40 following a number of accidents, including stopping right hand turns at certain junctions, and reviewing signage.
“Drivers using the junctions at Glewstone and Pencraig will still be able to turn right, with changes to the road layout giving drivers more opportunity to adjust their speed on approach. We aim to have these vital safety upgrades completed as soon as possible.”
The permanent closures are at Bannuttree Lane, Wilton Lane, Weir End Farm and Boat Lane.
The cost of this work is £85,000.
