A LOCAL Primary School is the first to achieve a prestigious Healthy Schools Award in Herefordshire.
Lea Primary School has led the way in promoting children's health and wellbeing by successfully completing the newly launched Herefordshire Council’s Healthy Schools Programme.
This ground-breaking initiative provides a comprehensive framework aimed at supporting children’s physical and emotional health through a combination of teaching, staff training, school environment improvements and fostering strong partnerships with parents and the wider community.
Over the past year, the school’s dedicated staff have worked tirelessly alongside the council’s Healthy Schools co-ordinators to focus on four key areas that help children and families embrace and sustain healthier lifestyles: physical activity; healthy food, drink and oral health; personal, social and health education and emotional health and wellbeing.
“We are absolutely thrilled to receive this accreditation and to be leading the way in Herefordshire,” said a spokesperson for Lea Primary School.
“This achievement reflects our commitment to nurturing a generation of children who are not only academically capable but also healthy, confident, and emotionally resilient.”
A special ceremony took place recently at the school, where the co-ordinators of Herefordshire Council’s Healthy Schools programme, visited to present the official award.
The event was a moment of great pride for both staff and students alike, marking a key milestone in the school’s journey to foster lifelong healthy habits in their pupils.
“We’re incredibly proud to be the first to complete the programme in the county and we’re committed to continuing to lead in promoting positive health and wellbeing for all,” said the school spokesperson.
The Healthy Schools accreditation serves as a testament to the school’s ongoing efforts to create an environment where every child can thrive, both physically and emotionally. The school offers a nurturing and enriching environment for children aged between the ages of two and 11.
