As the warm weather approaches many people are ditching the car and taking to the open road on their bicycles. However, not everyone knows what to do if something goes wrong. This is where members of Ross and District Cycle Club and EnviroAbility, a local charity in Ross-on-Wye, who provide real job opportunities to people with disabilities and disadvantaged backgrounds, have come together. They are organising a basic bicycle repairs workshop for local bike riders.
Adam Spector, a member of the Cycle Club, came up with the idea to have a get together within their cycle group to show their members how to repair tyre punctures and make simple repairs to chains.
The Cycle Club approached EnviroAbility with the idea, who sprang into action with the offer of premises to hold the workshop. Bob Davies, who volunteers at EnviroAbility two days a week repairing bicycles, is also a well respected member of the Ross and District Cycle Club andbrought both local groups together where they then came up with the idea.
Paula Evans, the Manager at EnviroAbility, told the Ross Gazette: “With the summer on its way many of you will be planning on venturing out on your bicycle. If you unexpectedly had a puncture on your bicycle whilst out on a bike ride, would you know how to repair the tyre to enable you to get home safely? If not that’s where we come in. “
Ross and District Cycle Club and EnviroAbility have joined forces to run a minor bicycle repairs workshop on Saturday, April 28th.
“If you, or someone you know, would like to learn how to do quick and easy repairs to their bikes please come along and find out how its done. Bob, Adam and other members of Ross and District Cycle Club look forward to meeting you and sharing their skills with others”.
The workshop will be held between 10am and 1pm at Overross Garage, Ledbury Road, Ross-on-Wye, HR9 7AS (Next door to the Plough Inn).
EnviroAbility’s project “Bobs Bikes” will also be open on the day so if you see a bike that suits your needs, you will have the opportunity to purchase one.
