Dear Editor

The chaos caused by the closure of the A49 is an absolute digrace. Highways England, which is paid for by the public, and which, therefore, has a duty to serve the best interests of the public, has chosen to ignore its responsibility by closing the road during the day instead of at night, which would have kept disruption to a minimum.

By disregarding the interests of us, the people, they have inflicted grave financial damage on the businesses on this stretch of the road. They have also put the jobs of workers at these businesses in jeopardy and are causing financial loss to those who are forced to make lengthy detours in order to get to Ross.

Highways England should be made to pay compensation to everyone within these cagegories.
