Dear Editor
I was approached by a wife of a retired postman, saying her daughter, who lived in one of the flats, was very worried about the application for the proposed development on the Old Orchard site. She knew that I had led opposition to the previous application in May, 1999, which was refused, and asked did I intend opposing this one.
My reply was ‘no’, as I am now 85-years-old and do not want the hassle.
However, when I looked into the details, something did not seem quite right in that the application was to be discussed at a Council meeting on December 18th, just seven days before Christmas Day and that the latest date for objections to be submitted was published as December 20th, two days after the said meeting.
The confusing dates were during the Christmas period, when we are all busy.
I now appreciate why the previously mentioned person, living in one of the flats, was so concerned, as it has been suggested by a Councillor that double yellow lines be painted in front of the flats. There are a total of 16 flats, and that an area on the site boundary, which is where the existing wide gates animal entrance to the site is situated, be created for parking for about six vehicles.
Where are the additional vehicles to park? Down the Gresleys and Blake Avenue would not be popular with the residents.
