I read with dismay Peter Martin’s letter complaining about the Gazette’s ‘presumptuous and needlessly inflammatory’ coverage of Extinction Rebellion’s demonstration. Then, a wonderful surprise, I read the letter from over 30 Herefordshire doctors who wrote that ’non-violent direct action then becomes the reasonable choice for responsible individuals (urging) government and media to respond immediately and proportionately’. 

The Gazette has responded ‘immediately and proportionately’ with its report on the XR demo.  We should be grateful to your journalists and to those ‘responsible individuals’ who give their time and energy to make Climate Change the most important issue on our political agenda.
