Dear Editor,

I understand that the recycling centre in Ross is now open on Mondays (in addition to the usual Thursday, Saturday and Sunday) for a trial period.

There seems to be little publicity about this, and I think it would be helpful if there was an article in the Ross Gazette about this. I understand that this is for a trial period only, and if not enough people use the facility, it is in danger of discontinuation at some point.

Editor’s note:

The Ross Gazette has published several articles in print and online regarding the campaign for the extra opening times at the Waste Recycling Centre in Station Approach. In October, 2018 and November, 2018 we reported that former Mayor, Joyce Thomas, had been supported in this campaign by the Mayor of Ross-on-Wye.

Then in January 2019 we reported on the success of this campaign with the confirmation that an extra day would be added. At the beginning of March, 2019 we reported that Councillor Phil Cutter confirmed the extended opening at that month’s meeting of Ross Town Council.

The Centre will be opening on every Monday from April 1st, 2019, including Bank Holidays, for a trial period of six months. This is in addition to the usual days of Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The trial will assess how much use the Recycling Centre gets and how much people need it.
