Dear Editor

As the River Wye is in full spate and a big flood ensuing, you might be interested to know that this is not the highest flood since 1968.

I have recorded every flood as part of the farm is on the flood plain of the river at Weirend

On October 28th, 1998 the flood  reached  5.03 metres  or 16ft 6ins!

On October 28th, 2019  the flood  reached 4.77 metres or  15ft 8 ins. What a coincidence exactly the same date in October!

This is only the fourth time  the river has reached  over 4.72metres or 15ft 6ins in the fifty years I have been here.

No doubt amongst your readers someone can tell me the level it reached in the very hard winter of 1947 when the thaw finally  set in?
