Dear Editor
I am grateful to Jesse Norman for responding to my letter about his view on Brexit but I think he makes my point for me. Even the piece he himself quotes from one of his previous contributions is a commentary on the current situation and the actions of others and not a clear indication of what he actually wants. And, he’ll be pleased to learn, I do have a regular order for the Gazette at a local newsagents and have read many, if not all, of his previous pieces.
Even so, and yes this could be my fault, I still do not know what he wants to happen and in which direction he would prefer to go. Yes of course commentaries are welcome, especially when they are as well written as his, but they do not tell us where he thinks we should be heading, what should happen next and what he will be working towards achieving.
This is of course even more important given that the current Brexit negotiations are only about leaving the EU and if successful are likely to have been much easier and quicker than the subsequent process of negotiating future trade and other relationships, even if we have by then worked out what we would like those to be.
