Once again may I thank, through your columns, the residents of Ross for their wonderful support of the Open Gardens event last weekend? Around 600 visitors tramped the streets in an always cheerful mood, to the delight of our dedicated Gardeners, who also deserve huge thanks for their enthusiasm and hard work.

Over the weekend our volunteer tea ladies served over 500 orders of ‘Tea & Cakes’ which may be why some other cafés were deserted for much of Saturday. It is therefore with some guilt that we thank our sponsors Ross Garden Store, as well as the other advertisers who helped enormously to make the event a financial success with profits for the Friends of St Mary’s in excess of £5500.

For the visitors who got wet on Sunday afternoon – thank you particularly for your perseverance in adversity.
