Dear Editor

Whether you voted Leave or Remain in the 2016 referendum, there can be little doubt that our politicians have made a complete pig’s ear out of the resulting negotiations, leaving us all with massive uncertainty and sick to death of the whole sorry subject.

We all know more now than we did when we voted and we have seen our own broken political system stripped bare. Our elected representatives duped us into blaming immigration and the EU for problems that were largely down to their harsh, ideologically-driven austerity measures. These have pushed too many ordinary people into poverty, while their insatiable Capitalist drive is allowing big businesses to slide out of paying the taxes they owe and is threatening our NHS and our already beleaguered public services. The gap between rich and poor is growing and it’s these rich, out of touch politicians who are gambling our future for their own profits and ruthless self-interest.

But there is still a way out. Over 5.9 million people have already signed a petition to revoke Article 50, taking the risk of a catastrophic no deal Brexit off the table. Two million people, according to police estimates, marched in London on Saturday, March 23rd to ask for a say on the final deal. This is how democracy works. It’s a process not a point in time and it’s high time we took back control from our feckless, squabbling minority government and the DUP who are underpinning them.

Revoking Article 50 gives us time to decide, as a nation what we want to happen next and what kind of Brexit, if any, is best for Britain. It gives us time to heal the massive, heart-breaking divide that the vote has caused in our communities, and even within families, and it gives us time to fight the Fascism and Islamophobia that is rising in Britain and driving the debate into the realms of racism and hatred.

If you agree, go to https://petition.parliament.uk and search for Revoke Article 50.
