Dear Editor,
Today I witnessed another near miss at the junction of Kyrle and Edde Cross Streets.
Luckily the old MG going up the hill was slow enough to stop. A few days ago saw another where an old 4x4, also at slow pace, was not so lucky. This happens a lot. If I see such things on a regular basis just here whilst walking the town, how many are there?
I am a slight fan of Darwin, so this could help address those, especially on motorbikes, who go up at 60mph+, but this would not be fair to those innocents, young or old, they use to depart this mortal coil.
Some traffic calming near this junction is clearly needed, and could surely be combined with crossing assistance for those at Merton Court? Not in favour of speed bumps due to seismic shock damage, but maybe the staggered priority chicane style? Not sure if busses can navigate this but may also prevent 40’ artics trying to dodge the weigh bridge.
