Dear Editor

I noted with interest the report on the last Town Council meeting, at which the proposals for the improvements to, and expansion of the Ross Tennis Centre were discussed.

As a very near neighbour to the Tennis Centre, I was surprised to hear of these suggestions initially via the Town Council meeting and the local media.

I have asked the Town Council to carefully consider all aspects of this proposal, before giving it any further support.

There are several points that need further investigation, which may not have been included in the recent presentation to the Council. Notably, these would include the impact on the neighbours to the Tennis Centre, in terms of additional noise, light pollution, and the difficulties of access and parking. Although the Crossfields Car Park is a mere 470ft or 0.09 miles from the pavilion, a section of Tennis Centre members choose to park in Ashfield Park Road, often carelessly, which has led to issues for the residents.

The question of any Section 106 funds that might be available to the town, and where they are best spent, is surely one for wider debate.

A suggestion that might find favour with the Council and the people of Ross would be some additional funds for one of the local schools, in order to find the space to educate the children who will occupy the new houses at St Mary’s Garden Village.
