Dear Editor
I don’t know if you have noticed but many intelligent ladies have been entering the Brexit battle which is about the economic and ultimately social well being of our United Kingdom.
Before I mention them may I remind you of the original lady who took us in? It was Maggie Thatcher. Over the past three years I have been amazed at the number of people who think Maggie was against the EU. She was all for it. She saw a market next door to us containing 350 million people an unmissable opportunity. But yes, Maggie wanted the best possible deal and fought for a rebate of EU charges.
If she were alive to-day Maggie would probably be horrified at some of her party voting to leave.
Some of the ladies who have taken up Maggie’s cudgells lately are as follows;
Gina Miller, Gina has twice taken an action to preserve the right of Parliament to have a say in Brexit rather than have it foisted upon us by lying politicians. She has used a lot of her own money to fight to preserve the sovereignty of Parliament, Lady Brenda Hale, was waiting to consider Gina`s lawyers pleadings as the chairman of the Supreme Court. Brenda is the first woman to be elected to the chairmanship of our top legal body. Just recently Brenda`s court ruled that the proroguing of Parliament was illegal in this time of national crisis.
Another lady making her presence felt these days is Jo Swinson, the leader of the Liberal Democrats. Jo has already planned what seems to be the most intelligent course of action on Brexit. If the Liberal Democrats gain power at the next General Election (and one can`t be far off can it?), she will immediately take us back into the EEC as a full voting member.
Currently, even if Boris with his unelected “team” managed to cut a deal with our trading neighbours and preserve peace in Northern Ireland, the UK would have no future say in the EEC. No say in our nearest, most important trading and political organisation. Jo, quite rightly in my view doesn’t see another expensive referendum as a sensible way forward. Single issue votes leave too much undecided.
They are very expensive and a lot of people do not vote in them. Jo is right that what we need right now is a return to sanity and stability and a programme of reform so that in future lies and extreme ideas can`t be foisted upon us.
