A ROSS hair stylist is back at work following an 18-month battle with breast cancer during which she had “phenomenal” care from hospital staff and “amazing” support from family and friends.
Lisa South, of Hair A Lise, which is based at Suzanne’s in Cantilupe Road, is delighted to be back in work part-time after “a journey and a half”.
She has been given the all-clear and has been discharged from the breast care team and oncologist at Hereford County Hospital.
Lisa said: “It’s been a journey and a half but the care from all the staff at Hereford has been just phenomenal.
“I’ve had the most amazing support from everyone – my family, friends, hairdressing colleagues and customers have given me the drive to not let one day beat me.
“It’s an amazing feeling to be discharged and I am so humbled and blessed with such beautiful people in my life.
“You have to have a positive attitude and mindset.
“I’m gradually getting there after all my treatment – chemo, radio and operations – which takes its toll.
“The after effects are long lasting but my focus now is to build up my energy levels and strength.
“After a couple of attempts to get back to work, it’s finally all guns blazing.”
Despite being vulnerable because of Covid, Lisa says she feels safe at work.
She said: “Susanne’s is great for safety procedures and there is PPE (personal protection equipment) so I feel safe although I am vulnerable.
“It’s just great being back at work, seeing my customers and meeting new ones.”
