AUCTIONEERS RG & RB Williams report that a shorter entry of finished cattle met a sharper trade than previous weeks at the livestock auction in Ross-on-Wye on September 22.
Finished cattle reached a price of 420p per kilogramme with quality butcher heifers consistently selling between 400p and 420p per kilogramme.
Heavier cattle peaked at £2,585 with any number of cattle selling between £2,200 and £2,585.
The top vendors were DE & SJ Cheacker of Ostbridge Manor Farm and DM & CS Andrews of Glen Court Farm.
A good entry of cull cows soared to 330p per kilogramme for a Limousin cross cow from CE & EC Freeman of Vain Farm. Quality well fleshed cows sold between 280p and 330p per kilogramme with a heavy and strong Angus cross cow topping at £2,251 from J E Bennion of Hayes Farm.
The auction of lambs met another fast trade topping at £170 per head, equating to 340p per kilogramme with any number of well fleshed lambs selling between 320p and 340p per kilogramme.
The strongest demand was shown on well-meated export lambs and heavyweight lambs which sold between £150 and £170.
The overall average price of lambs £140/head 44kg representing 312p per kilogramme as per standard quality quotation.
The top vendors were J Barrington of Home Farm and C Lovering of Well House.
Another good entry of cull ewes and rams attracted strong demand with prices peaking at £185 for a run of Texel cross ewes.
Any number of well fleshed continental cross ewes sold between £160 and £185 per head. A large run of North Country Mule ewes met good competition selling between £140 and £160 and a larger run of lean ewes forward selling between £90 to £120.
The top vendors were P & DA Watkins of Grovesend Farm and N & I Bevan of Trothlands Farm.
