AUCTIONEERS RG and RB Williams report that the livestock market in Ross-on-Wye on June 16 represented another magic Monday.
A nice entry of finished cattle peaked at £2,768 from EJ & JM Westoby & Sons of Brooklands with strong steers selling to £2,640 from the same vendor.
Quality heifers topped at 421ppkg and 426ppkg for a Hereford Cross suckler bred steer from DE & SJ Cheacker of Ostbridge Manor Farm.
The cattle met a consistent trade throughout with well-meated Continentals selling between 370p - 400ppkg.
Young bulls met strong demand with Angus Cross bulls selling to £2,369 to average £2,285 at just 14 months of age.
A shorter entry of cull cows and overage still met a good trade to peak at 280ppkg or £2,677.
Many well-meated cows sold between 250p - 280ppkg. The entry was dominated by dairy and dairy cross cows selling from 240p - 260ppkg.
The overall average price of cull cows was £1,828 per head with the top vender being CA & RJ Stallard of Upper Maund Farm.
A larger entry of lambs, totalling 1,904, created a blistering trade from start to finish, auctioneer William Probert reports.
The entry peaked at £179 – 461ppkg. Any number of well-bred Beltex cross lambs were sold from 420p - 461ppkg.
The heavier lambs saw a lift in trade peaking at £179 for 47kgs with 44kg+ selling between £160 and £179.
All lambs forward averaged 370ppkg - £155 – 41.8kg with the pverall average price of lambs being £155/head. The top vendor was D A Wookey of Southworthy Farm.
The entry of cull ewes met with a fast trade, topping at £175 per head. Any stronger ewes sold between £140 and £175. However, leaner ewes attracted less demand than previous weeks, selling between £80 to £100.
The overall price of ewes was £118 with the top vendor being CD & MG Blandford & Sons of Huntleys.
