AUCTIONEERS RG & RG Williams report that a small entry of good quality finished cattle sorts sold to an outstanding trade at its livestock market in Ross-on-Wye on September 15.
Auctioneer Richard Williams said that cattle sold between 360p and 390p per kilogramme but more cattle was urgently required to meet demand.
The top vendor was GE Phillips & Son of Dairy Farm, Penrhos.
A very good trade of cull cows saw Friesians selling to 258p per kilogramme and grade two beef cows selling up to 261p per kilogramme.
The top vendors were FO & EC Turner of Poolfield Farm and J Lawrence of Winnal Farm, Allensmore.
A short entry of lambs sold to was electric despite heavy rain the previous day. The trade in lambs was in high demand with handier weights selling up to 338p per kilogramme with heavy sorts going under the hammer at £179.
“More lambs would easily have been sold to advantage,” the auctioneer said.
The top vendors were ET & V Morris & Sons of Moat Farm, Orcop, VM & DJ Gunter, Cowmeadow Farm, English Bicknor and DT Evans, Pen-onn, Llancarfan.
The overall average price of lambs sold at £129/head 41.2kg the standard quality quotation was 313p per kilogramme.
A mixed entry of cull ewes sold to a very fast trade. All better sorts sold between £180 and £200. The overall average price was £126.
The top vendors were R Powell of Cwm Steps, Craswall, N & I Bevan, Trothlands Farm, St Weonards and DE & CE James, The Grange, Bosbury.
The auction house has a number of forthcoming store sales on Thursday, October 9, on Thursday, October 23 and Thursday, November 13 with all sales starting at 11.30am.
