The small village of Llangrove, just outside Monmouth, is about to enjoy its thirteenth annual pantomime at the beginning of March.

Members of the village community and the surrounding area come together annually as Llangrove Community Productions to put on a full-length family panto, which involves performers from across the generations, from age five upwards. “It’s a huge undertaking,” says this year’s director, Sarah Cooper. “Getting everyone together for enough rehearsals is a challenge in itself, and we have several changes of scenery, quite a bit of technical wizardry, lots of music and fabulous costumes (this year by Steph Ross, one of last year’s performers).

“What’s lovely is the way everyone pulls together and helps. Some people struggle with learning lines, while others find themselves performing solo songs on stage for the very first time in their lives - but during the build-up to the show we become like one big family, with everyone supporting each other and helping them get over their nerves!”

This year’s production is Robin Hood and The Babes in the Wood by Ben Crocker, described by Amateur Stage magazine as “The wittiest and most original writer working in pantomime today”.
