Steve Bailey of Sellack has been both a mentor and a coach during his working life and he has now completed formal training to become a life coach. He contacted the Ross Gazette after reading a recent article about easing exam nerves.

He told the Gazette: “This is a particular area of interest for me, as a qualified coach and having just published a book entitled ‘The sensible study toolkit: The self-coaching model for balancing personal wellbeing with study success’.”

He explained that while he offers professional coaching to adults many of the ideas behind the approach in his book can be successfully applied to students of any age.

He helps adults find direction in their careers by offering a safe space for them to ask questions. He explained the difference between a mentor and a coach.

He said a mentor supports someone in their own subject area and often reflects on their own experiences but a coach concentrate’s on the other persons own needs.

He aded that coaching is a one to one approach but the advice could be used by lots of people which is why he has written his book.
