Local author, Brian Jackson’s latest book entitled ‘Sleepers Awake,’ has been getting some great reviews. The love story with a tragic twist, is based upon real events.

Brian told the Ross Gazette “My latest book has been out in paperback for just over a month and is already getting great reader feedback and 4-star Amazon Reviews.

Brian told the Gazette: “Whilst my love of amateur theatre (performing and directing in productions in St. Mary’s Church, the Larruperz Centre and the Phoenix Theatre) has been one of my main leisure interests, the urge to write seriously was always there and in 2013 my first novel ‘The Tears of Autumn’ was finally published to an approving readership. A children’s book, ‘The Butterfly Princess’ followed. But another story lurked in the back of my mind.

“It had lain dormant for years. It arose from a small item I remembered from a report in the Sunday Times in the early 1960s, about an outrage committed by Congo rebels on a small community and the trauma suffered by the survivors. That was all.

“Of course, survivors’ guilt is widely acknowledged nowadays, but then it was largely unrecognised. It was strong stuff but it wasn’t enough on its own.

“Until many years later a colleague unexpectedly confided details of the tragic loss of his child to me. Out of those two events, unconnected by time or place came my latest novel.”

Brian’s book is available from Amazon (paperback or download to Kindle).
