Local butcher, Tim Hanks and Cornwalls Family Butcher in Ross-on-Wye are delighted that their customers have nominated them for the Eat Game Awards in recognition for their contributions to the cooking and eating of game meat.

The Eat Game Awards is an exciting initiative aimed at celebrating all that is best about wild British produce by recognising great culinary achievements.

Tim Hanks has been nominated for the Best Game Butcher award, and Cornwalls has been nominated for the Best Small Retailer selling game award.

Tim told the Ross Gazette: “It’s really exciting that someone has nominated me. It’s nice that people appreciate what you’re doing.”

He added: “The awards are trying to promote game, which is also great, as it is wild meat - and you can’t get much more organic than that!”

Tim explained some of the game he offers at Cornwalls, such as wild boar, muntjac and venison boxes, as well as burgers, pheasant sausages and much more.

Nominations will be open until June 15th, where the award panel will then collate the submitted nominations and announce the top 10 strongest nominees in each category. These 10 will then be narrowed down to one winner, selected by the general public. The individual or business with the most votes will win.

You can participate in the online voting system via: https://eatgameawards.co.uk/ and encourage others to vote for your favourite individuals or businesses by sharing your vote on social media and tagging @eatgameawards

The winner will be announced at a gala dinner at Boisdale Canary Wharf in October 2018.

The Eat Game Awards will be supporting the Country Food Trust. Their aim is to feed people in need using game meat casseroles and curries, packaged in ready to eat long life pouches. They have already helped to feed over 125,000 people and their aim is to feed 1,000,000 people in their first five years.
