The annual Field and Livestock Competitions of the Harewood End Agricultural Society took place recently on June 25th and 26th, over two hot sunny days. As ever, there was fierce competition from the HEAS farmers for the wonderful array of silver trophies awarded by President Sue Marshall for the wide variety of classes and crops.
For the first time this year there was also a prize for the best Member’s garden and a long-service award to an employee.
Toby Wenden of Wallis Farms was organiser of the judges, stewards and entries and succeeded in getting judges from all over the UK to come and visit the farms and crops entered.
The judges were complimentary about the high standards of agriculture and the quality of the crops in general, despite the late and challenging planting season experienced in spring.
The second day’s judging culminated in a prize-giving and delicious al fresco supper held at Parch Farm, Weston, the home of Chairman, Hugh Duthie and his wife, Jessica. This was enjoyed by many of the Society’s members.
