Four schoolgirls from Ross-on-Wye will have wonderful new quilts to enjoy for years to come as they have created them from scratch by themselves.
The youngsters are members of the Kids Quilt Club which is run by Kim O’Rourke at The Patchwork Shop in Ross.
The girls, aged between 9-13, finished their quilts on Saturday, July 8th.
Kim told the Ross Gazette: “We did finish with a little party to celebrate their amazing achievements. The girls have done brilliantly and I am so very proud of them all for completing what is a big task for little people.”
She added: “The block design in the quilt is called Exploding Pineapple and creating the design has taught the girls how to choose colours, how to cut and measure accurately, sewing accurately and how to quilt. Not to mention how to construct everything to make the finished quilt.
“They all used sewing machines and were all confident in threading them and handling the machines within a few weeks of the course starting.
“Their favourite bits were evidently making the pineapples themselves and cutting out and measuring; the unanimous least favourite was putting the binding on right at the end.”
Kim is running single day workshops for children across the summer holidays. She said it gets them used to the machines and lets them see whether they like sewing before they make a commitment to a two term course.
The next Kids Quilt Club will start in January, running fortnightly, and is open to both girls and boys.
