SEVERAL special Remembrance events will be held locally during Remembrance Week.
On November 6, pupils from Ashfield Park and St Joseph’s Primary School will be joined by civic dignitaries and members of the Ross and District Branch of the Royal British Legion at St Mary’s Churchyard to commemorate those who fell in the Korean War and Falklands Conflict and the passing of 22 Chelsea Pensioners who died in Ross.
On November 8 at 10am, a Remembrance Service will be held in St Michael’s Church, Brampton Abbots, followed by a Service of Thanksgiving at the Shrine in First Avenue at 11am.
On November 9, serving military personnel, veterans, and uniformed youth groups cadets will parade from the Police Station at 10am to the War Memorial on The Prospect at which civic dignitaries and representatives from a host of organisations will join together for the formal commemoration. This will be followed by a short service at St Mary’s Church.
On November 11, a short act of Commemoration, including a two-minute silence, will be held at the Market House at 11am to mark the signing of the Armistice 107 years ago.
Ross Quakers are holding two services of Remembrance and Reflection - on Sunday November 9 at noon, and on Armistice Day, November 11 also at noon.
Both events will start in the Quaker Peace Garden near Brookend Street and Brampton Street Where people will stand for two minutes silence around the White Poppy Peace Wreath, to then repair to the Meeting House for an open discussion on the meaning of the White Poppy initiative in the context of people’s present-day concerns for peace and social justice resolutions along with the original campaign was initiated by the Co-operative Women's Guild.
The Armistice Day two minute silence aims to remember all the victims of all wars at the Quaker Peace Garden followed by an open discussion at the Friends Meeting House.
