Ross-on-Wye Cricket Club held its annual dinner at the Old Court Hotel, Whitchurch when, once again, Tori and her team provided a wonderful meal and an excellent ambiance setting for the event.

After dinner, the Chairman, David Warwick, thanked the players, coaches, sponsors and the many volunteers for their commitment, effort and support during the season. Ross Cricket Club enjoyed another successful season and is thriving both on and off the field. The First XI had secured league promotion and the Chairman highlighted the fact that 75% of this year's winning squad was made up of players who had come through the junior section. This augured well for further success in seasons to come and was testimony to the dedication of the coaching team over the past seven years. Junior teams had excelled in 2011 across all age groups.

The Chairman introduced Stuart Mair, First XI captain to give a review of the season. Stu commended the hard work of Joe Hiram, Junior Co-ordinator and the team of coaches. Their commitment is paying dividends and puts the club in a fantastic position for the future.

Stuart said it had been a fantastic year to be captain of the First XI as all players had responded to the challenge and stepped up to the mark, whether it was in the first match of the season where he and Andy Tingle put on 50 to win the match or Jack Casstles making 46 on his debut. It had been a total team effort. Stu said that the club enjoys a good reputation in the league and that he had received text messages from players at other clubs giving their support for the last match of the season. The First XI won promotion.

Special thanks were given to Steve Earl, Chris Ball and Andy Tingle and the rest of the groundsmen who ensure that the teams play on the best ground in the league every week. Stu also thanked Christiaan Ferreira, First XI coach, for his support both on and off the pitch. The two other captains, Stuart Tucker and David Skyrme were also thanked.

The awards were then presented by the President, Steve Earl with Chris Ball, Vice-Chairman, providing a brief summary of events.

The first series of presentations were for the U15 team, managed by Graham Stonadge and sponsored by HI Solutions. Mr Nigel Donovan, Managing Director, presented the awards. Jack Donovan won Batsman of the Year, newcomer Humphrey Bodington won Best Bowler and Jack Casstles was voted Players' Player. HI Solutions also kindly sponsored a Spirit of Cricket award which was presented to Charlie Kibble.

Stu Mair read out the First XI award winners: Jack Evans won Batsman of the Year for the second consecutive year, playing 14 innings and scoring 699 runs with a high score of 133*. Best Bowler went to Gabriel Warwick 121.4-29-385-24 with a best of 5 for 24.

Captain of the Second XI, Stuart Tucker, presented a snapshot view of their season which was also very successful. Stuart lead from the front and won Batsman of the Year, with a top score of 96. Clive Jones rose to the top of the bowling averages with 122.2 -19-469-27 with a best of 3/13.

Third XI Captain, David Skyrme was very happy with how the team had performed, especially some of the younger players. Best Batsman was awarded to newcomer Keith Flitton and best Bowler was won by the captain himself with 124.3-12-492-23 and a best of 5 for 29.

The President regaled the assembled guests with anecdotes before presenting the Volunteer of the Year award to Karen Stonadge for her tremendous input on the fundraising aspect at the club. Young Volunteer of the Year was won for the second year running by Andy Tingle in recognition of his commitment to ground maintenance. Andrew is joining the Army in January and the club sends their very best wishes with him. Des and Ally Sarjant were thanked for their sterling work on the BBQ on junior training nights as was Nicole McIntosh. Last but not least, tokens of appreciation were presented to Melanie Farr and Chris Barnard for the time and effort they have given to helping to serve the best cricket teas in the league.

At midnight, Vice-President, John Howls was on hand to transport guests home, courtesy of the generous support of H & H Motors.
