LOCAL racing ace Luke Jones was back in the British Superbike Championship at Knockhill in Scotland last weekend, after a lay-off for an operation on his arm.

Luke's team PR Racing had fitted new parts to his bike, but the qualifying stage did not go as planned. The oil cooler developed a crack, causing oil to leak onto the exhaust, and Luke had to retire from the session. This left him last on the grid for the race itself.

However, with the bike's problems now sorted out, Luke was faster in the warm-up session, and the team was feeling good.

The first race, held in damp conditions, saw Luke rise through the field, and he finished 16th. In the second race he started out last on the grid, and was steadily gaining on the other riders when the race was cancelled owing to high wind.

He had zoomed up to eighth place by the time the red flag was waved.

All in all, after a shaky start, Luke had two excellent races, and was relieved to have no problems with his arms. He's now looking forward to the next round of the championship, which takes place in Snetterton later this month.

Luke is grateful to all his sponsors and friends who have helped him.
