A FOREST man who carried out a Christmas Eve knife attack at a Gloucester flat has been jailed for three years and nine months.

Daniel Mann, aged 22, of Leominster Road, Dymock, was sentenced when he appeared at Gloucester Crown Court on Wednesday, September 18.

He had pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to wounding with intent, threatening a person with an offensive weapon, and common assault.

Mann was jailed for the count of wounding with intent, and was sentenced to a further six months for threatening a person with an offensive weapon, plus four months for the common assault, both to run concurrently with the previous sentence.

He was told he must serve half before being eligible for release.

A five-year restraining order was also put in place in relation to the male victim.

Mann was arrested following an attack on a man and woman at an address in Cromwell Street on December 24.

The court heard he arrived at the flat with two unidentified men and launched a 10-minute attack on the man before dragging the woman outside.

The victim was left with wounds to his head, shoulder, elbow, abdomen, thigh and knee, including a slash across the left side of his face that went from his mouth across his cheek.

The court heard that there were discrepancies between the accounts given by the two victims and Mann as to what had led to the attack.

Prosecutor Georgia Lurcombe told the court that it was likely that the woman, who was known to Mann, had gone to the address to buy drugs.

A short while later, Mann arrived with the two unidentified men and launched an attack.

The court heard that Mann may have had concerns for the woman’s welfare, but could not recall why he had gone to the address.

Judge Rupert Lowe said: "Exactly what you were doing there is not easy to discern, but I do not have to be completely clear about that.

"The fact is you went there for reasons that you may have not been clear about yourself, but you went armed and disguised in order to beat this man up, which you did."

In a statement, the victim said: "Before I was attacked, I was so happy. I was physically fit and had a good life. I was attacked and everything changed.”
