A 24-year-old Builth Wells man has taken part in a gruelling event to raise money to help the urology department at Hereford County Hospital.

It was a case of whether two legs were better than four legs when Leuan Price took part in the 23-mile Horse Versus Man event in Llanwrtyd Wells recently.

More than 650 runners pitted themselves against 60 horses and riders in the event which originated from a bet made in the Neaudd Arms public house in 1980 after an argument over whether a man could beat a horse in a long-distance race.

The pub continues to be the starting point of the race.

Leuan completed the course in a respectable four hours despite the rainy and cold conditions.

This is the fourth year Leuan has taken part in the race. This year he wanted to raise money to help two causes that are close to his heart; the Parkinson’s Society and the Urology Department at Hereford County Hospital.

He raised more than £2,100 that was split equally between Parkinsons UK and the County Hospital’s Urology Department.
