A group of exceptional ladies, including 91-year-old Mary Winnel, get together every week to enjoy a bit of natter while they knit. Together they have knitted thousands of garments for the charity ‘Link to Hope.’
This past year the ladies have knitted 35 large banana boxes full of garments, which Mary has packaged and kept stacked in her bedroom.
Link to Hope works to help people of all backgrounds, providing help and services to the poor and marginalised. They send all of their knitwear all over the world, to anyone that needs it.
The ladies, who are usually between eight and ten strong, meet at Bernard Hackett Court every Monday from 2-4pm.
Anne Gray, who runs a similar knitting group of around 22 members at Smallbrook Gardens on Tuesdays, told the Ross Gazette: “It’s often about what others do for the elderly and the care that they give them, but I want people to see what people like Mary do for others, even at 91.”
