Keep the magic secret is the message of the popular TV series Merlin, but when an episode of the programme is shown later in the year the secret of the Amazing Hedge Puzzle at Symonds Yat will be out.
Although well known as a beauty spot this area is also getting a reputation as a great film location and it was echoing to the sound of 'lights, camera, action' when scenes for BBC's new epic sword and sorcery fantasy 'Merlin' were filmed near Ross this week.
The 13-part series, being screened during the autumn, follows the story of the young Merlin, who one day grows up to be the greatest wizard the world has ever known.
The star-studded cast includes actors such as former Eastenders Michelle Ryan, Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Anthony Head and One Foot in the Grave's Richard Wilson.
Shine Productions, the company behind 'Dr Who' was filming scenes for the fantasy series at the Amazing Hedge Puzzle, at Symonds Yat West, from Monday to Wednesday this week, October 6th to 8th.
Edward Hayes, who runs the Hedge Puzzle with his brother Lindsey said that they were delighted that they were filming a pivotal moment in the show in the maze.
He added that it is not the first time the maze has been the star of a show. It has appeared in a Scottish Widows advert and in a pop video.
"This is fantastic news for Herefordshire," said Jane Lewis, Herefordshire Council's cultural services manager.
"It will not only generate income locally, but put the county on the magic map when the series goes out on the BBC," she added.
Peter Hands, chairman of Visit Herefordshire Ltd, said: "Herefordshire is a magical place, whether Merlin really exists or not, and we're delighted the producers have chosen this location for some of the scenes.
