Ross Golf Club Captain, Fred Stott, was determined to bring a difference to his Annual Captain's Choice event and that certainly proved to be the case. At 7.30 am the first team of four commenced their golf. This day was devoted to maximising the Captain's contribution to the Macmillan Cancer Support organisation, Fred's chosen charity for the year, and the aim of the day was for golfers to have some fun.

149 golfers took part, the last group returning around 6-30pm. A shortened course did not detract from its difficulty. The winning score of 92 stableford points was shared but after count back those victorious were Mike Cooper, Di Honey, Frank Gallagher and Audrey Causon. Second on the same points were Frances and Richard Nightingale who played with Jenny and Richard Berrington. Nearest the pin winners were Steve Forrest, Mike Harris and Harold Beach.

After the presentation of prizes and introductions to the club of representatives from Macmillan Cancer Support – Jon Rayner and Jenny Goddard, nearly 50 people enjoyed a tasty supper and friendly conversation. Approximately £1,400 was raised and Fred would like to thank everyone for their generous support of this event.

72 members took part in the Club's latest major trophy event, being the Collins Flag, a medal based competition where the player who goes furthest in his round before his handicap allowance is used up is the declared winner. This proved to be 7 handicapper and accomplished golfer, Andrew Stephens when he holed his put on the 19th green. In finishing just 2 feet away on the same green Club Chairman, Mike Cooper, who is currently enjoying a real purple patch with his golf, was runner-up. Their respective net medal scores were 67 and 69 respectively with Frank Baker winning handicap 2 with a net 68. There were net 70s for James Morgan, Harry Butler and Roger Morgan and net 71s for Nigel Montague, Clive Whitson and Jacob Wild.
