A memorial plaque to men who died in World War I that used to be on the wall of the chapel in Gloucester Road has disappeared.
Lorna Barnard can remember visiting the chapel with her grandmother who regularly worshipped there, and her funeral was also held there. Lorna has often wondered what happened to the memorial after the chapel had been converted into apartments.
Gordon Amand made a record of the memorial for the Imperial War Museum about 20 years ago. He said that there are 12 names on the plaque. He took a picture and sent all the details to the Imperial War Museum in London. However, he has no knowledge of its whereabouts today.
The owner of the building recalls allowing someone with an interest in the plaque to take it away for safekeeping but he does not have a record of who they were. So Lorna has appealed to readers of the Ross Gazette to see if anyone knows where it is today.
