Les Darker, who has lived in Ross-on-Wye for about 70 years, recently re-discovered some old photographs showing the sports teams of which he was a member when he attended Ross Youth Club, many years ago.

The Youth Club met in what is now known as The Venue. Les played cricket with the Ross Youth Club team at the Grammar School playing fields. He also played football and this team met at the Sports Centre.

He told the Ross Gazette: “We were a very good side, we started at the bottom of the Herefordshire division and within four years we had been promoted to the Premier of the Herefordshire league.”

He added that the team then had to disband as they were no longer a youth club team.
