A lorry driver was slashed by a knife when he questioned two men who were hanging around near his vehicle.

The driver of a Man tractor unit, towing a 45' long curtain-sided trailer had stopped on the A40 in a lay-by near the Wilton roundabout around 1.30pm on Tuesday, March 30th. Whilst taking his scheduled rest, he became aware of two men loitering around his vehicle.

When he got out to challenge them, one of the men walked towards him and caused a cut in his arm about 14cm in length with what appeared to be something like a Stanley knife.

The two men then drove off towards Monmouth in a white crew-cab Transit van with a black flat-bed. The rear number plate was obscured by a tow hitch. The driver of the lorry then found three small slashes in the curtain-side of the trailer and it seems that the two suspects were preparing to steal from the vehicle before they were disturbed.

Police have issued an e-fit image of one of the men involved and would like to hear from anyone who recognises the man in the image or the description of the suspects' vehicle. Anyone with information should contact PC David Hamilton from Ross CID on 0300 333 3000 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
