After 15 years of trading in its current iteration, The Mill Race village pub in Walford, near Ross-on-Wye, has closed its doors for day to day trade.

Continued challenging trading conditions have impacted the business, and the management team has made the decision to close the pub while a sustainable long-term use is found. The pub is actively seeking a tenant, and has begun the process of finding a candidate who will be able to successfully take it forward. In the interim, The Mill Race will continue to operate as a venue for both private and community events, and will be available for family parties, wedding receptions, charity events and local societies to book for hire.

Since 2004, The Mill Race has claimed numerous accolades – including three consecutive years as the regional ‘Best Wine Pub’ and one as the regional ‘Best Food Pub’ at the Great British Pub Awards, and winner of the overall ‘Food Pub of the Year’ at the highly-esteemed Publican Awards, the Oscars of the industry – and seen foodie celebrities stop by, including travelling writer Alistair Sawday. The pub has also hosted local community events and food fairs, attracting visitors from across Herefordshire and the South West to sample the local flavours of the Wye Valley and the surrounding area.

The Mill Race team would like to take this opportunity to thank all their past and present patrons of for their custom, as well as extending their gratitude to the many local suppliers who provided the top-quality produce that contributed to the pub’s success over the years. It would also like to thank the dedicated staff who have supported the pub over the last decade and a half.
