Madam, I write to bemoan (in sympathy with many Ross Residents) the replacement of our weekly 'Blue Box and Refuse Collections' with one of wheelie bins and 'supposedly' more effective services.

What I ask is 'Why?' and whose bright idea is it to inflict what appears to be a hair brained scheme on our town involving great inconvenience and difficulties on its residents.

For instance - look at areas such as Old Gloucester Road, New Street, Copse Cross Street plus parts of Edde Cross Street, Camp Road and Chase Road - where in many cases the the wheely bins will have to be taken through houses to the rear of the properties, if this is possible. Or they will be left on pavements where they will be blots on the landscape and a hazard to pedestrians.

Add to this the transportation to a suitable base plus the possibility of the breakdown of the marvellous new sorting equipment installed.

Also, spare a thought for the residents of Alton Street and to a lesser degree The Gresleys and Merrivale who are already suffering from the strain of parking and a volume of traffic that these a quiet suburban residential roads were never constructed for.

Finally we, Ross residents, will greatly miss the friendly services we have enjoyed for the past few years and have greatly appreciated.

Joyce Davis, Ross
