There is some good news for residents and visitors fed up with the state of the county's roads, Herefordshire Council's bid to the National Pothole Fund has been successful and the council has been awarded an extra £2.573 million for road repairs, the highest allocation in the country.
This year Herefordshire has seen a significant increase in central government funding to help fix our roads. Along with Severe Weather Funding which was awarded earlier this year, Herefordshire will receive additional government funding for road maintenance exceeding £6 million for this year. This almost doubles the usual level of grant funding.
However there are many angry residents who have not been appeased by the workmanship of some of the repairs. A recent example was a section of road in Kyrle Street. After a picture was posted on Facebook Councillor Richard Mayo contacted Paul Hill of Balfour Beatty who returned the following morning to inspect the work, cleaned up and relaid some tarmac.
He told the Gazette and Cllr Mayo that the work had been done correctly for the situation as it is difficult to use the tar sealing on the edge of potholes in areas which face heavy traffic use as it sticks to cars and motorists complain and claim for removing it.
