Madam, I would like to use your publication to record my appreciation for the prompt action and concern shown by members of the Ross public, both known and unknown to me, following my unfortunate accident in Broad Street last Monday whilst visiting the May Fair. Such an incident brings out the good side of people and illustrates the community spirit still present in our town in an age when we are all said to do nothing other than look after ourselves.

At the same time I must not forget to mention the prompt and excellent service provided by the St John Ambulance personnel in treating my injuries.

For myself I resolve to take more care in the future and not seek publicity in such a public and dramatic fashion.

Once more thanks to all concerned.

Alan Stringer, Ross

Madam, A massive thank you to David and Yolanda McGregor of Field Fayre and ART. for working so hard to put on this year's May Fayre. It was an unqualified success and brought thousands of people into the town to enjoy free entertainment and visit all the wonderful stalls and shops.

Without a doubt it promoted Ross and all it has to offer to a very wide audience. I was asking local people to fill in Town Plan questionnaires in the High Street for part of the day and it soon became obvious that many had travelled for miles to come to the event. I would estimate three out of four people I approached said they were visitors to the town.

All the May Fayre volunteers are to be congratulated for getting involved and making this event possible. How refreshing that there are people prepared to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in to taking positive action to enhance the town and promote it. What a contrast to those who choose to sit on the side- lines offering nothing but negativity and criticism.

Cllr Caroline Utting, Ross

Madam, What a superb day the last Bank Holiday Monday was in Ross-on-Wye. In fact, it proved to be a very busy weekend.

The May Fayre brought thousands of people to the town and there was a great atmosphere everywhere. Lots of new faces!

The whole weekend was very busy for us and for many of the shops in the town. Events like this help to bring new visitors to Ross-on-Wye which is very important to small locally owned and run businesses like ourselves.

Didn't the classic cars look fantastic dotted around the town? Thank you to Wilf Stephens with his Daimler SP250 and John Price with his Escort 1300E who organised this spectacle.

Well done to David and Yolanda McGregor, the main organisers of the event, the Association of Ross Traders and everyone who took the time to come along and join in the fun.

Sue and Daniel Pearce, Tudor Sweets, Ross
