Naomi Haggett who works at Morrisons in Ross-on-Wye has recently become the Community Champion at the store.

Her first event will be a special day on Friday, October 11th, to help raise funds for Oscar Saxelby-Lee who needs £500,000 to fund a new cancer treatment. His family, which includes his great aunt Mandy Robinson from Ross, have been overwhelmed by support for their fundraising campaign, which is the fastest online charity appeal ever.

Naomi told the Ross Gazette that October 11th will be a non-uniform day for staff who can wear their own clothes or dress up. There will be a cake sale, competitions and a raffle in the foyer entrance to the store as well as collection buckets for shoppers to make donations.

More than 10,000 people responded when a plea went out for potential stem cell donors for five-year-old Oscar after doctors gave him three months to find a match. After a match was found, his parents Olivia and Jamie hoped it was the first step to curing their son, who has a rare T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. But they were left devastated when they discovered the disease had returned despite Oscar’s stem cell transplant this spring.

They suffered further heartache when they were told the NHS would not fund a second transplant or a potentially new cell therapy treatment. The desperate couple launched a fundraising drive to raise the money needed to send Oscar to Singapore for the CAR-T trial and they are thrilled that they have reached £400,000 already.
