Madam, Thank you for identifying who is responsible for the roadworks outside Morrisons. I must say, it comes as no surprise to find out that it is Morrisons themselves who are ultimately responsible for weeks of traffic delays at a pinch point in Ross' road system.

I think we might have put up with this sort of disruption for a few days, or even a week, but this has been going on for weeks, and you report that "they are expected to come to a temporary halt within a fortnight". I'm not sure I like the word 'temporary' in this context.

I am sure that the work being carried out could have been completed much more quickly and with much less inconvenience to motorists, but probably at greater cost. Richard Dixon's letter last week called it 'slow-motion roadworks'. Those of us waiting in traffic queues must surely agree. The infinitesimal impact that the additional cost of doing it quickly would have on Morrisons' shareholders has been balanced against causing considerable inconvenience to the residents of Ross – to our great disadvantage.

I'd like to suggest that Morrisons sell petrol and diesel fuel at a considerable discount for a period, to offset the additional fuel we have had to use waiting for the lights to change, and for the inconvenience we have all suffered.
