Dear Editor,
I live very close to the beautiful Wye Valley AONB just south of Ross-on-Wye. As a regular reader of the Ross Gazette I have been appalled by the reports of indiscriminate littering in Ross.
It might be of some interest to your Ross readers that littering is not just confined to the town.
About nine months ago I went out on my own litter collecting expedition. I collected three plastic bags of litter over a stretch of nearly three miles of rural roads.
Four months ago, on a country lane, I collected what appeared to be the packaging that had accompanied a large object – perhaps a fridge or a wardrobe.
Today, in the same area of open countryside I found the following objects in a small pile at the roadside adjacent to my land: one empty carton of pure apple juice, 1 empty carton of orange, one empty packet of salt and vinegar crisps, one empty packet of Worcester sauce crisps, one empty packet of 20 “Fyest” Russian cigarettes (the packet is printed in Russian cyrillic lettering) and two Amazon logistics, “We missed you”, click and collect cards.
There were tyre marks on the adjacent verge where a vehicle may have parked whilst the driver casually dumped his or her accumulated rubbish.
