Dear Editor
There has been so much emotion expressed over these past few weeks.
May I, through the Ross Gazette, pay tribute to everyone in the local area who has done such wonderful displays to remember all of those men and women who never made it home in World War One, and all of those families who have lost loved ones. This was sometimes more than one close family member.
While maintaining the focus on the First World War all the other conflicts in the past 100 years have also been remembered.
Locally, we have had some wonderful tributes from many groups and individuals. For example the churches, the schools, the groups such as the RBL, WI’s, and craft workers, the list could go on and on.
However, I have been particularly moved by the hard work put in by Mary Deaville, in collecting paintings from groups and individuals over the past months. Every single one is different with the independent interpretation of the artist. They have been put together in remembrance of all those men and women lost so long ago but never to be forgotten.
I know she had a lot of help from many others but it was her initial idea that was the guiding force.
Well done Mary, and I do hope that your displays in George Place and the Dogs Trust will give a lot of people great pleasure, as well as providing poignancy and thought provocation at such a time.
Thank you for all you did - you and your artists of all ages have marked this anniversary with great respect.
