It is well known that music can have a dramatic effect on our mood. Hence its use in movie soundtracks to build emotion, in supermarkets to influence our buying, and even in the gym to stimulate performance.

But music can also be useful in reducing everyday stress – and in that way, it’s a valuable tool that’s readily accessible to everyone.

In an enlightening look at ways of using music as therapy, the Marches Counselling Service is staging a Saturday morning workshop at Christ Church in Ross-on-Wye on November 18th, led by professional musician and counsellor Jane Bovell.

No musical expertise is required to attend, and there’s no fixed cost for entry, but any donations will support the work of MCS, the local BACP-accredited service that makes available a range of therapies to those in distress.

The event, Music, Mindfulness and Mood, runs from 10.00am – 12.30pm, with a break for refreshments.
