MEMBERS of the Ross and District Civic Society are on the hunt for a missing brass plaque and are appealing to the public for their help.

In 1984 a valuation was made of paintings and items at Ross Council Chambers. Amongst these was a 'Brass Plaque, a certified list of various local distances, all in yards, and dated 1700. Insurance value £500'.

It was described by the valuer as 'interesting and old, and difficult to value. I consider many people would give £150 – £250 for it, yet it is almost priceless to the people of Ross and of course irreplaceable. Being so small it would be easily concealed, and it appears to be fixed to the wall by a few small screws, ie one good pull would remove it. I strongly recommend this plaque be made a lot more secure'.
