Christopher Kirkham-Sandy, film producer and owner of The Old Court House Bed and Breakfast, Ross-on-Wye, welcomed a film crew from The Cotswold Production Company to his Bed and Breakfast on Friday, September 28th.
Robin Townsend, who lives in Ross-on-Wye, is one of the owners of The Cotswold Production Company Limited. They were filming a series called ‘Conditions’ that focuses on mental health, and it will be on Netflix in 2019.
As well as highlighting mental health and its struggles, Robin said: “We really want to showcase Ross-on-Wye as a beautiful area.”
The plot involves a retiring Administrative Chief of Operations who is responsible for the mentally ill occupants catered for in specialist residential homes. He enters the building to find hell has broken loose, and all of the residents have vacated the home.
A drama series of 13 half-hour episodes depict a dark comedy with ingenious twists. Each episode focuses on a different mental health condition, and can be viewed on a stand-alone basis, but there are subtle links joining the series’ episodes into a coherent sequence.
Some of the mental health conditions focused on include schizophrenia, psychosis, narcissistic personality disorder, and ganser syndrome.
The director, Chas Burns, said: “This series focuses on various types of mental illness, which is a very topical subject given the welcome active involvement of the Duke of Cambridge and The Duke of Sussex.”
Dennis Waterman, who saw huge TV successes with The Sweeney and Minder, will be starring in this series, along with the well-known and much loved, Fenella Fielding. Fielding’s contributions to this series were sadly the finale to her career and there will be a special mention at the end of her episode ‘Animal Magic’.
Robin said: “It was an absolute joy to work with her. She was as cool as ever.”See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
