BBC Wales is set to air a new series shining a light on the lives of those that live along the Welsh border, and in the Wye Valley.

Entitled ‘Border Lives’, the four-part series will air over the course of one week on BBC Two Wales at 7.30pm commencing on Monday, June 4th and continuing on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Exploring the area from Montgomery in mid-Wales to Chepstow in the south, Border Lives tells the tales of the diverse folk that work, play and live in the borderlands.

It’s unspoilt beauty, rural charm and spiritual landscape has captivated and attracted people for hundreds of years and its inhabitants have an array of colourful stories.

From farmers to foragers, and from bikers to bowls players, the series explores their diverse, quaint and warm-hearted stories and shares their unique border lives.

Angela Jones, who is originally from Usk, and is featured in the series, said: “The River Wye runs through my veins and it excites me as much as it did on the first day that I found it. For over 30 years I have swam, kayaked, ran and camped on or beside it.

“Every day, I can be found in or on it with my faithful rescue dog Jack and I’ve become known as the ‘Wild Woman of the Wye’.

“Last year I took five weeks off to explore the river at greater lengths. From the source I kayaked 100 miles, before running 160 miles and swimming a further 84 miles, covering a total of 344 miles with Jack at my side. It wasn’t about the speed or times, I just totally submerged myself in the adventure. I tasted the rich flavour of the Wye while swimming, trawled along the bottom of the river beds swimming with salmon and eels, as my passion with swimming lies below the surface as much as above it.

“The BBC followed me both working and playing for their Border Lives series and it was wonderful to share my love of this river and my passion for life and adventure with them.

“To me, it can’t get any better and hopefully the series will encourage others to see the beauty in this spectacular place called the Wye.”
