Residents of the small village of Wormelow came together on Sunday, October 8th to mark the transformation of a former telephone box into a lending library.

The new ’library’ is situated in the centre of the village opposite to the former ’Reading Room’.

Villagers who had turned out to share in the fun of the opening ceremony had to stand opposite sides of the busy road which passes through the village. At times the noise of the traffic almost threatened to drown out the entertainment, provided by singer Ruby Ann, However, organiser, Rosemary Rigby told the Ross Gazette, Ruby Ann rose to the occasion and everyone enjoyed singing old time favourites. Refreshments were served in the village hall.

Rosemary added: "I dont think Wormelow has ever seen an occasion quite like this and it is not likely to again."

Rosemary started planning the event 12 months ago after rescuing the old phone box.

Rosemary added that she would be very grateful to receive interesting books, which people no longer require, which could be added to the new Wormelow Lending Library.
